Book: The Promise of a New Day – A Book of Daily Meditations
Author: Karen Casey & Martha Vanceburg
Publisher: 1983, 1991 Hazeleden Foundation
I first came across extracts from this book seven years ago in the Sunday Independent. A page of the book was printed weekly and I always found myself zoning in on the text, the simplicity of the words and the message it was portraying. I have since bought it and read one page a day. It is a lovely book of simple quotes followed by a reflection and a meditative sentence to close for each day of the year. It reflects on living in the moment, making healthy choices, aligning our lives to our values, being aware of our behaviours, attitudes and judgements, setting boundaries and using our intuitive selves. It encourages taking responsibility for our lives, trusting in the rightness of a plan and nurturing ourselves to the best we can.
I feel this is in keeping with the philosophies of coaching as it addresses the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of the human being. This book can help one to keep on track in the struggle that one can encounter on this life’s journey and when one is taking action to create a positive change in ones life.
“A positive attitude today will enhance the value of every experience. The choice is open to me.
Every moment is mine to make as beautiful or as painful as I choose.
The inner voice can be heard if I choose to listen. It will never guide me wrongly.”
This book inspires, motivates and challenges one to keep focused on a daily path and to move forward with understanding, wisdom and strength. I have found it instrumental in my life and have enjoyed its clarity and simplicity. I recommend it to anyone who is embarking on a journey of self awareness and discovery. Its gentle voice is a reminder that the real importance of the journey is simply that we are making it alone and yet mysteriously together.
