Coaching Certification: What to consider when obtaining Life Coaching Certification

Why Coaching Certification?
It’s true to say that when you look through the jobs column in the Sunday paper you don’t see jobs advertised for certified coaches.
However it is important to know that any job that is advertised that involves interpersonal skills whether its front desk or CEO level – the job will require coaching skills and therefore a recognised coaching certification.

There are two ways to obtain a Life Coaching Certificate.  Enrol in a class room style OR choose an online coaching certification.  The class room style certification tends to focus on practitioner skills whilst the online coaching certification tends to focus on lifestyle and life strategies coaching.
Both Life coaching certifications are very valuable and choosing the right one could directly impact your earning potential.

Be aware that many companies offer Life Coaching Certification but what is their certification process and is it recognised in industry?

There is no doubt that being a certified Life coach brings credibility but what it doesn’t do, is guarantee  that  you can have the skills, tools and techniques to deliver results.

When choosing a Coaching Certification ensure the following;

-   The provider has a proven history that consistently demonstrates success for their graduates

-    The Coaching Certification trainers are National Qualification award providers such as FETAC

-    There is accreditation that is recognised but nationally and internationally such as LBCAI, AC and/or ICF

Life Coaching Courses – what you need to know.

In this Life Coaching Courses article we will look at :-

Who benefits from attending Life Coaching Courses?

What types of courses are available?

What type of course will suit my needs?

What can I expect to pay?

Who benefits from attending Life Coaching Courses?

Well to be honest everyone.  Considering that premise of Life Coaching is finding balance and confidence in living a fulfilled life – who doesn’t need that?

The people who benefit from attending Life Coaching Courses are,  Individuals who want to self coach,  Managers, Leaders, Trainers, Educators, Business owners, Self employed, Job Seekers, Business Start ups, Parents, Carers, Directors and anyone who is interested in living their best balanced life.

What types of courses are available?

Life Coaching courses in Ireland are everywhere you look.  I see them advertised in my local schools and VECs as part time evening courses.  I see them run out of lots of different venues from colleges to hotels and community centres.  I even know of one course that is run from the living room of the trainers home.

The shorter courses tend to be part time classes from 6 to 10 weeks – each class being about 2 and a half hours long – you may receive a certificate of attendance

You can do more intense short courses – 5 to 10 days and receive a Coaching Certificate and/or FETAC award

The more substantial courses range from 3, 6 and 9 months  and you can receive a FETAC award and/or a Diploma

My experience is that some of the short – introduction to coaching courses can be anything from self help workshops to accredited certificate courses so please do your research.

What type of course will suit my needs ?

With so much choice on offer its a good idea to decide what it is you need to get from the course.

Once you have an idea what you want – then look at the course duration – what the syllabus covers – what the qualifications are – what you can expect to end up with

There are 3 main benefits from attending Life Coaching Courses

Personal development : Self Awareness, Self Management and Self Control

Up skilling:  Coaching skills, tools and techniques

Career Progression: Professional qualification and transferrable skills to increase employability

What can I expect to pay?

You can expect to find courses prices ranging from €90 to €12,500

The workshops are the cheapest and the designer label qualifications are most expensive

What I suggest is you invest in yourself and your needs.  Is it necessary to pay the higher limits – over €10,000 I dont’ believe so.  You can obtain an excellent qualification for example an Accredited Diploma  for between €2,500 and €3,000.  The majority of professional diplomas carry the same weigh in credibility and business recognition so don’t be sucked in by the labels !!
