A brief history to Life Coaching Courses in Ireland
Life Coaching courses in Ireland have been around since 1999 – Congratulations, its the 10 year anniversary and Life Coaching is still one of the most consistent growing professions. Having been in training and education since the 80’s I have had the pleasure and sometimes to be honest the displeasure of attending a great variety of courses.
It became very apparent to me that in the early days of coaching courses in Ireland – there was very little choice and they courses that were available were lacking a great deal of relevancy and professionalism.
The demand for professional Life Coaching courses in Ireland kept growing and it became both a passion and a mission to provide high quality content with high quality training – this has lead to Positive Success Group being one of the most established and successful providers of coaching courses in Ireland.
So I want to share our experience what makes a Life Coaching course in Ireland successful so you can make informed choices..
What the first Life Coaching courses were like – where they fell down.
The first wave of Life Coaching courses in Ireland were quite ‘Americanised’ with very few skills that were relevant or could be transferred to the Irish market.
What was most noticeable to me was the lack of understanding around how us Irish communicate with each other.
The original courses put a lot of effort into ‘telephone coaching’ and suggested we should concentrate on 30 minute fast moving sessions. What we know about how the Irish communicate best is by building trusting, empathic relationships – this is best done face to face and needs to be genuine and authentic.
What the early Life Coaching courses didn’t take into account about the Irish
One thing is for sure – we are a very intelligent nation and we sense when things don’t fit right.. As individuals and as businesses we don’t appreciate the ‘one size fits all’ approach – and why should we.
We are incredibly creative and use this talent to our advantage by customising and tailoring to enhance our identity . We more than hold our place in the world when it comes to being creative, whether that’s in music, art, dance or business.
Some of the early courses didn’t consider this and assumed that a generic model of coaching would work..
In was blatantly obvious to me the generic models they were using didn’t take into account our sense of ourselves such as…
Things we are not used to doing :
Taking Praise - we are better at giving it than taking it
Acknowledging our successes – we tend to say “ It was nothing… “
Being honest about our feelings – we have a one statement for all occasions “Sure I am grand”
Knowing when to say NO – we have a habit of saying YES when we want to say NO
